Spring / Summer Fashion

Spring / Summer Fashion
Highlights from the Michael Kors Spring 2009 Collection
Sportswear and Americana are synonymous with Michael Kors, and for his spring 2009 collection he turned out some of his best work. There are amped up country-club classics with turtlenecks, jackets and pants in cobalt blue and bright yellow while trousers are cropped into clam diggers. Black and white prints and solids dominate the spring line up, but with aforementioned infusions of bright color.
Highlights from the Diesel Spring 2009 Collection
The Civil War meets punk in the spring 2009 collection for Diesel’s new brand, Black Gold. Military details include soldier hats, epaulets, jackets while punk details include exposed zippers as pinstripes on leather pieces, shredded jackets and treated denim. The show also featured the Black Gold accessories line which included jewelry and burlap and leather bags.
Photo Gallery of the Z Zegna Spring 2009 Collection
The Z Zegna spring 2009 collection doesn’t disappoint, as I would have expected. The color palette is soft and easy on the eyes with soft pinks, blues and clay tones. The silhouettes are clean and have a historic look to them but are modernized by using current fabric technology and interesting printing techniques.
Highlights from the Y-3 Spring 2009 Collection
Yohji Yamamoto’s line for Adidas might be considered athletic-wear, but it’s more like sporty high fashion. This isn't the kind of gear you would actually do anything athletic in considering the price, but rather wear at the country club or wear while kickin' around the city.
Rock and Republic Spring 2009 Men's Collection
The Rock & Republic spring 2009 collection is shown entirely in black and white which makes for a visually striking presentation of the clothes. The collection has an '80s rock and roll sensibility with skinny ties, fitted shirts, slim jackets and skinny pants. This is a great collection for guys who like to dress simply but fashionably.
Photo Gallery of the DNNY Spring 2009 Collection
The spring 2009 collection marks the 20th anniversary of DKNY. Donna Karen herself was there as well as a variety of celebrities. Clearly more attention was put into this collection. The details are more interesting with more of a variety of designs than in previous seasons. These are clothes that DKNY customers will be excited about.
Photo Gallery of the Lacoste Spring 2009 Collection
I’m not normally that inspired by Lacoste, mainly because it’s so predictable, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But for spring 2009, Lacoste seemed fresh. I loved the color palette--think clay tones, blasts of sherbet colors then black and white. The overall feel of the collection was resort-like and sporty.
Highlights from the Rag and Bone Spring 2009 Collection
English mods and rockers are reborn in the the Rag & Bone spring 2009 collection. There’s a dash of Americana Too. This is one of those collections that has a cohesive theme throughout and with every ensemble being strong in its own right, a quality many collections lack. Applause to Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, the English lads behind the label.
Highlights from the Duckie Brown Spring 2009 Collection
One thing is for certain, Duckie Brown never disappoints in terms of getting a strong reaction out of me. The two designers behind the label are no doubt very creative. I often feel their designs are more like wearable art than actual clothes--the graphic details are always interesting. Even with this mind, I am perplexed by the spring 2009 collection.
Highlights from the Perry Ellis Spring 2009 Collection
For Perry Ellis spring 2009, the color palette was very spring-like with the use of lavender, pink, blue and orange with khaki tones throughout. I am particularly glad to see so much use of pink, a color more men should try to wear. The pieces in this collection had their usual all-American quality and the clothes were casual, comfortable and stylish. What more can you ask for?
Highlights from the Spring '08 Fashion Collections
As varied as each collection is for spring 2008, there are some definite themes that prevail throughout such as plaids, cardigans and slender silhouettes. Colors of the season are predominantly neutral (beiges ad whites) with bold splashes of color such as pink and orange. Black and metallics are also seen in some collections.
Highlights From The DKNY Spring 2008 Collection
DKNY has really tapped into the urban way of life. The menswear is easy to wear to work and easy to dress down for a night on the town. That’s the quintessential way of the young urbanite. Fabrics are comfortable and the overall designs are modern, something that DKNY is very adept at doing so consistently from one season to the next. See the highlights of the DKNY spring 2008 collection.
Highlights From The Michael Kors Spring 2008 Collection
Michael Kors has certainly captured the privileged, leisurely life look. Tennis shorts and a white cashmere hoodie under a navy blazer. A white cable-knit v-neck sweater with navy trim under a navy blazer paired with white shorts. But the whole collection didn’t have this kind of predictability. See the highlights from the Michael Kors spring 2008 collection.
Highlights From The Diesel Spring 2008 Collection
My overall impression of the Diesel spring 2008 collection was "are you kidding?" Uninspired and directly ripped off from teen movies of the '80s, I was horrified. Hot pink and white are not something most guys are going to want to wear. And I would venture to say the same about jump suits. See some of these ridiculous looks in my highlights from the Diesel spring 2008 collection.
Highlights From The Z Zegna Spring 2008 Collection
My favorite pieces in the Z Zegna spring 2008 collection were finely tailored jackets and slender pants, wide loose fitting trapeze shorts and shawl collar sweaters. The dominant color palette was simple and elegant--white, creme, blue and black.
Highlights From The Lacoste Spring 2008 Collection
For spring 2008, Lacoste seems more true to itself than in recent collections. It was also more cohesive. There were many variations of polos as you would expect, but also slender cotton trousers, and relaxed shirts and blazers among other things. See the highlights from the Lacoste spring 2008 collection.
Highlights From The Buckler Spring 2008 Collection
Modern, classic and fabulous are words I would use to describe Buckler's spring 2008 collection. There were rock star looks, James Bond looks and urban hipster looks which all meshed well together. Attention to details made simple pieces interesting. Ensembles in Grey, white and black were my favorite.
Highlights From The Duckie Brown Spring 2008 Collection
There are fashion critics who think that Duckie Brown is ahead of the curve and original. I do agree, but when I see oversized gold metallic tees and giant brightly colored floral shirts and pants I have draw the line. Here I have highlighted my favorite pieces. I'll spare you the bizarre.
Highlights From The Perry Ellis Spring '08 Collection
Easy wardrobe classics with modern twists in pale shades of grey and tan paired with white dominated the Perry Ellis spring 2008 collection. Of course there were splashes of color here and there such as a yellow tech jacket along with other pieces in yellow, coral and orange. Overall I appreciated the simplicity of the collection and, for the most part, its wearability.
Highlights From The Nautica Spring 2008 Collection
For spring 2008 Nautica certainly grabbed everyone's attention--not with the clothes mind you, but with a gorgeous array of models. So here we have male perfection showing off the anticipated nautically themed line of clothes. Romantic notions of a privileged life.
My Favorite Men's Swim Trunks and Board Shorts
I look forward to treating myself to a new swimsuit or two every spring and summer (sometimes it's the simple things in life). This is an area where you can really express yourself with fun prints and colors. There are many swim suit choices out there, so check out my top picks in swim trunks and board shorts for men.

Photos from the Jill Stuart Spring Summer '07 Men's Collection
Since 1993 Jill Stuart has been making women's clothes but she became a major name when her designs were worn in the hit movie "Clueless." To expand her brand and show her talent for both women's and men's clothing, she has launched her new men's line for spring summer 2007. See it here.
Photos from the DKNY Spring Summer '07 Collection
New York is always the backdrop for DKNY. The inspiration for spring summer '07 comes from the iconic city with its melting pot of style and cultural diversity. These are easy to wear clothes which is what I love about the DKNY label.
Photos from the Duckie Brown Spring Summer '07 Collection
I've never been the biggest fan of Duckie Brown. In the past I have found the clothes too ridiculous to actually wear. However, for spring summer 2007, the collection seemed more refined with more appeal to a wider audience. The shape, cut and fabric are stylish. As with the other collections I have seen, the color palette is soft and neutral with splashes of color.
Photo Gallery of the Perry Ellis Spring Summer 2007 Collection
Perry Ellis is the fifth largest men's designer brand in the United States with retail sales of over $1 billion. Perry Ellis himself died in 1986 and since then the company has changed hands several times. The menswear division has also seen several creative directors with John Crocco being the latest, showing his first collection for Perry Ellis for spring summer 2007.
Photo Gallery of the John Bartlett Spring Summer '07 Collection
John Bartlett started off his Spring Summer 2007 show with ensembles soft cool tones. The latter half of the show was about warm neutral tones with splashes of orange or yellow. The collection as a whole was soft, casual and comfortable.
5 of My Favorite Pieces from the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring '06 Line
I typically don’t like everything in the Marc by Marc Jacobs line. I find many of the pieces unwearable. But there are certain aspects to the Marc collections that are clean and classic. Here are five of my favorite pieces in the Marc by Marc Jacobs spring 2006 line that are classic and very wearable.
Cotton Suits Make a Cool and Fashionable Choice for Summer
Cotton and other natural fiber suits are certainly being seen more and more in spring/summer collections. There is something romantic about them, perhaps a nod to another era. For spring/summer 2006, high-end designers like Giorgio Armani, Paul Smith and Etro added cotton suits to their collections. This can only be a trend we will see for years to come.
Stylish Wardrobe Essentials Every Guy Needs for Spring
Each season every guy should update their wardrobe with a few new things. If you want to look super stylish this spring, make sure to have these men's casual wardrobe essentials for nights out on the town or for just kickin' it on the weekends.
Looks from the Nautica Spring / Summer '06 Men's Collection
Nautica stays true to their roots and market share prominently featuring their nautical theme for Spring 2006. However, with a new design team in place, and since the brand relaunch in early 2005, they are exploring new areas like premium denim and better quality suits. Their prices still remain accessible though which makes them a consumer favorite.
Rosa Chá Creates Sexy and Cool Mens Swimsuits and Beachwear
Rarely do you see anything that you haven't seen before when it comes to men’s swimsuits and beachwear. However, the luxury brand Rosa Chá has created the sexiest and coolest swimsuits and beachwear for men I have ever seen. Perhaps you will think about picking up something less ordinary next time you are in the market for a swimsuit, and especially after seeing this amazing collection.
Casual Looks from the John Bartlett Spring/Summer '06 Collection
Similar to John Bartlett's dressier looks for spring/summer '06, his casual looks also have unusual and unexpected elements. Overall the looks are loose and comfortable, evoking images of breezy summer days. These are the kind of clothes you would take on vacation.
Dressier Looks from the John Bartlett Spring/Summer '06 Collection
John Bartlett's influences are wide ranging and this was particularly evident in his spring/summer '06 collection. In regards to his dressier looks, I love the way he throws in unexpected touches or details by way of interesting fabrics, trim and unusual parings. See for yourself.
Casual Looks from the DKNY Spring/Summer '06 Men's Fashion Collection
Casual looks in the DKNY spring/summer '06 collection have comfortable relaxed cuts. The color palette focuses on whites, ivories, greens and neutrals. Lightweight textured blazers make for the perfect spring jacket. Shirting and knits are soft and sharp looking. Pants are casual in linen, denim and corduroy.
Dressy Looks from the DKNY Spring / Summer 06 Men's Fashion Collection
The DKNY spring/summer '06 men's fashion collection is about clean silhouettes and comfortable cuts. Textures are soft, prints are sharp, and fabrics are lightweight. As with many designers, the spring/summer '06 color palette emphasizes on greens browns and soft ivories. All in all, looks are as dressed up as they are casual which is a DKNY trademark.
Highlights from the Lacoste Spring / Summer '06 Men's Collection
There is more to Lacoste than piqué polos says Christophe Lemaire, its creative director. The inspiration for spring summer '06 was Japanese and Brazilian street styles and "funny colors and patterns mixed in a funky way." It is about mismatched stripes, bright colors and snug striped polos.
Highlights from the Perry Ellis Spring / Summer '06 Men's Collection
Mens Fashion - Shorts, drawstring pants, flip-flops, lightweight natural fibers, fine-gauge knits and colors that already looked sun-bleached are just some of the looks the Perry Ellis collection had in store for spring and summer '06, as they were for almost every other menswear designer in New York.
Highlights from the Tomer Spring / Summer '06 Men's Fashion Collection
Tomer Spring/Summer '06 - "The color palette of the season is primarily influenced by the morose climate of the world today yielding cool somber shades of grey with hints of black blue and green." This is "my vision of Tokyo in the not too distant future with remnants of America in the early 1920s."
Men's Fashion - Buckler Jeans Spring '06 Men's Collection
In addition to seeing the big name designers during New York Fashion Week, I try to seek out new and not so well known designers. I had a pleasant surprise when I saw Buckler’s spring '06 show. Many men’s collections are combining formal elements with denim and sportswear but not always as successfully as seen in this collection. Check out this picture gallery of the collection.
Swim Suits
I look forward to treating myself to a new swimsuit or two every spring and summer (sometimes it's the simple things in life). What ever your summer activities may involve, there are many swim suit choices out there. Here I have highlighted some of my favorites.
Alexandre Herchcovitch’s Spring/Summer '05 Men’s Collection
Brazilian fashion designer Alexandre Herchcovitch is avant-garde if nothing else. For his men's spring/summer '05 collection he chose a kaleidoscopic palette, and mixed prints and patterns, creating ensembles with strong individual pieces. Alexandre has shown at Sao Paulo Fashion Week, Fashion Week in Paris, and New York Fashion Week. His creations are expertly tailored, yet young and casual.
Dressy Looks from the DKNY Spring/Summer '05 Collection
Classics get a new attitude. DKNY takes all a man's favorite pieces and modernizes them with clean lines, unexpected details and an urban sensibility. A rich neutral palette and seasonless fabrics keep it flexible enough to dress up or sport down. The results are sophisticated pieces for a man to personalize and create his own sense of tradition.
Casual Looks from the DKNY Spring/Summer '05 Collection
A sophisticated approach to casual dressing. In soothing sandy tones, chino-centric sportswear becomes luxe by way of layering. Decontructed suit jackets and cotton pants in solid or pinstripes are mixed with striped shirts--perfect for casual office days or sidewalk bistro dinners. Dress it up with crisp navy or add a refreshing pop of color by way of a tee or knit.
Men's Suits - John Varvatos Spring/Summer '05 Mens Suits
John Varvatos feels that the uniform is dead. Men are taking a more individualistic and personal approach to dressing. They are mixing dressy with casual, resulting in an eclectic look that suits their personality.
Highlights From The John Varvatos Spring/Summer '05 Collection
The John Varvatos Spring / Summer Collection is masculine and sexy. It is casual yet can be worn to just about any occasion. There is an ease to the collection that embodies the spirit of spring and summer.
John Bartlett's Spring '05 Collection Focuses on Men's Suits

Perry Ellis’ creative director Jerry Kaye has launched a new higher-end fashion line. The new Perry Ellis Signature Collection will give regular guys access to the looks normally found on fashion runways. These casual clothes have luxury design details and find balance between relaxed and refined.
The Perfect Casual Look for Spring and Summer
One of the things I look forward to the most about spring and summer is being able to shed the jackets and wool sweates and wearing lighter clothing. I particulary enjoy wearing what I consider my uniform of the season - a polo, flip flops and jeans with a great belt topped off with cool sunglasses. Check out my 5 spring and summer must haves for the perfect casual look.
