Helpful Shopping Tips

By , About.com Guide

I know shopping is traumatic for most men, but there are ways to make it quick, easy and somewhat painless. So, when you’re heading to the mall to do the dreaded deed, do the following to minimize the agony and maximize the output.

  • First and foremost, wear clothes that you can easily take off and put back on in the dressing room.

  • If you aren’t the kind of guy that knows what he likes, and, more importantly, what looks good on him, take a friend that you trust when it comes to fashion advice. Don’t take someone who doesn’t know your personal style and comfort level.

  • Take inventory of your wardrobe and take note of what you need. Having purpose to your trip is key--this will help you avoid impulse buying which even I have unfortunately been known to do.

  • Don’t be afraid to try things on you might not usually gravitate towards in order to get a feel for other styles and fits--you might surprise yourself. And also keep in mind that some things look better on you than on the hanger.

  • Make sure you are comfortable in what you are wearing; sit down and move your arms around so you know you can move with ease.

If you still can't handle the idea of spending your time shopping, you can always give mail order catalogues a try or the Internet. Even though it can be more expensive with the shipping charges (many online retailers offer free sipping form time to time) and somewhat of a gamble, you have the luxury of trying things on at home. You can also match your purchases with other things in your closet and take your time in deciding whether or not to send an item back.

    Now get going!!
