Men's Fragrance - Questions About Fragrances/Colognes Answered

By

Men's Fragrance - I receive many emails from readers about a variety of topics. One of those topics is fragrance since just about everybody wears some sort of after shave or cologne. I thought it would be helpful to share some of the questions I’ve received regarding cologne/fragrance.

How much fragrance should I use?
If people keep asking you what fragrance you are wearing when you walk by, that's a sign you are applying too much. People should have to get close to you to smell your fragrance. Use just a couple of spritzes or if you have a splash bottle, apply one finger over the bottle opening, tip the bottle over and evenly apply your fragance onto your favorite application points. Try not to exceed one or two "finger" applications. I suggest using a spray format since it is easier to use and better for guys who have a hard time regulating the amount of cologne they put on.

Oh, and you don't have to use every variation on a fragrance--cologne, aftershave, body wash, deodorant. It’s true ladies like a good scent on a man, but you don’t want to slap them in the face with it. And if you use a multitude of bath and shaving products with varying scents, be careful not to over do it. You could end up repelling, not attracting.

Where should I apply my fragrance?
Appling fragrance to your wrists, the sides of your neck, and over your heart naturally intensifies the scent. That’s why you should put it on your skin, not on your clothes. Also, fragrance mixes with your natural scent creating a slightly unique fragrance. I know I have tried fragrances that smell fantastic on other people and awful on me. That’s why it’s best to get a sample before making a purchase.

Should I change my scent with the season?
As I’ve said, heat intensifies any fragrance and already heavy scents are even stronger in the summer. That's why lighter fragrances with grassy or citrus notes work best in the summer, and heavier fragrances with musky or woodsy notes are better for winter.

Should I reapply later in the day?
Well, that’s up to you. A little spritz in the afternoon will not only keep you smelling fabulous but will also perk you up.
