Men's Fall Fashion - 8 Men's Fall 2009 Fashion Trends
While in New York for Fashion Week, I made a point of scouring the shops, chatting with fashion experts and of course reviewing various publications to identify prevailing trends in men’s fashion for fall 2009. You don’t need to spend a fortune on the designer label to get these looks either. You can find some great designer knock-offs at shops like H&M, Banana Republic and the like. So here are eight men’s fall fashion trends you might want to incorporate in your fall 2009 wardrobe.

Casual Fall Jackets - Men's Casual Fall Jackets
A great transitional weather item is a casual jacket. They are the perfect thing to wear with jeans and a tee. And they come in so many styles, but I have a few favorites. A men's casual fall jacket is a seasonal must, so check out a few of my top picks.

Fall Sweaters - Men's Fall Sweaters Under 100 Dollars
Sweaters are a key element in any man's wardrobe. I like to wear them with everything, mostly because I can still look sharp and put together without needing to iron a shirt. They are also a great transitional weather item. Don't wait until it's too late, check out some of my favorite men's fall sweaters.

Highlights From The Y-3 Fall 2009 Collection
Yohji Yamamoto's Y-3 collection for Adidas typically features rather oversized pieces but for fall 2009, I was surprised at how many of the pieces were normally sized. And layering interesting pieces is a key theme for Y-3 fall 2009. Slender jackets and upper pieces are juxtaposed with slouchy pants. Greys and blacks dominate the color palette with accents of blues and green and red. Overall the collection is has a sporty, urban hipster feel which is what I would expect considering it's Adidas.

Highlights From The Calvin Klein Fall 2009 Collection
The Calvin Klein fall 2009 men’s collection could be called part futuristic and part ‘50s Americana. Sleek lines and simple silhouettes are featured, but that is something one expects from the label. There is the occasional punch of color such as a dark teal blue suit that could have walked off the set of Mad Men. Ultra modern pieces like a glossy black trench coat and ultra pale grey bomber jacket are exciting. Overall the collection is clean and sharp.

Highlights From The Lacoste Fall 2009 Collection
If I didn’t know that I was in the midst of Fall Fashion Week I would have thought the Lacoste Fall 2009 collection was a spring collection with spring-like colors represented such as white, yellow, pale grey and blue. There seemed to be more cotton than wool as well. I suppose since Lacoste’s origin is sportswear we can simply assume that the sporty and active Lacoste customer is escaping to a warmer locale during the mid-winter season. Not a bad idea really.

Highlights From The Nicholas K Fall 2009 Collection
I didn’t think there would be room for yet another outdoorsy, rugged yet urban sportswear company but then with Nicholas K I am proven wrong. A relatively new label having premiered in spring of 2007, the designs are casual and masculine but not typical. Fabrics have a slightly distressed look to them and the overall focus seems to be on sweaters, jackets and outerwear. The earthy hues are reminiscent of Indiana Jones. See highlights of the Nicholas K fall 2009 collection here.

Highlights From The Duckie Brown Fall 2009 Collection
For the Duckie Brown fall 2009 collection, the silhouettes may be simple, but rugged fabrics like heavy herringbone and waxed cotton with functional elements like knee pads on trousers as well as painter’s pockets are made to look modern by accessorizing with big pompom knit hats, oversized bulky scarves and extra high turtlenecks. Black and brown hues are punctuated with blasts of bright orange. The vision seems to be for a young and fiercely sophisticated sportsman and outdoorsman.

Cardigans - Men's Fall Cardigans
Cardigans are another wardrobe must have. And they have had a bit of a comeback lately too, not that they ever really went out of style. They come in so many styles from slim fitting and modern to more traditional. Check out my top picks in men's cardigans for fall.

Highlights from the Rock & Republic Fall 2008 Collection
Youthful and hip without being faddish is how I would describe Rock & Republic. For fall 2008 the focus is clearly on great outerwear pieces such as leather jackets and wool coats. Trim, fun suits and sport coats are also a focus. Everything is shown in black and gray for the most part. See some highlights from the Rock & Republic fall 2008 collection here.

Highlights of the Rag & Bone Fall 2008 Collection
I have typically thought of Rag & Bone as more high fashion sportswear or casual attire. So you can imagine my surprise at the fall 2008 collection which featured suits, sport coats and wool trousers among other things in more luxurious fabrics. Ensembles were shown in monochromatic hues which I find to be sublime. There were military and English country references yet the collection remained quite modern and urban. See highlights from the Rag & Bone fall 2008 collection here.

My Favorite Looks from the Z Zegna Fall 2008 Collection
I am in love with the Z Zegna fall 2008 collection. The tailoring is superb and the rich fabrics in black, gray, navy and ivory hues are sumptuous. Modern Far East looks are combined with references to turn of the century Europe. The blousy trousers and some knits are Armani-esque. The double-breasted suit jackets are surprisingly youthful and trim. The leather jackets, suits and tuxedos are fresh and inspired. The Z Zegna fall 2008 collection is romantic, modern and functional all at once.

Highlights from the DKNY Fall 2008 Collection
For men, the DKNY fall 2008 color palate is essentially gray and black with a splash of orange here and there. Cardigans, blazers and coats are the focus since it is all shown with the same dark denim jean. Each ensemble is also shown with a white shirt and skinny tie. As with other collections, the hot items for fall 2008 are chunky sweaters and cardigans. I am also pleased to see blazers and sport jackets so prevalent. See the highlights from the DKNY men's fall 2008 collection here.

John Bartlett - Highlights from the John Bartlett Fall '07 Collection
I have always admired John Bartlett's vision. He has the ability to mix concepts that could possibly be perceived as oxymoronic. His Fall 2007 collection was no different. His clothes are always quite masculine which I love, and this season he paired ivy league and military influences. The predominant color scheme was creme and tan (or desert hues) as well and black and grey. The coats and suits are slim and well tailored and the knits have a nice weight. Overall the pieces are classic.

Lacoste - Highlights from the Lacoste Fall 2007 Collection
According to Christophe Lemaire, Lacoste's designer, the inspiration for fall 2007 was French film from the '70s. Leisurewear and weekend attire was predominant. Your typical Lacoste polo shirt was nowhere to be found. There were skinny pants, as we have seen in just about every collection, along with rugby stripes shirts, a variety of knits and boots were ever present. I'm not sure if I was bored with all of this, but I found myself wanting something more. See some highlights from the show.

Buckler - Highlights from the Buckler Fall 2007 Collection
Although well known to a more exclusive clientele, Buckler is becoming one of my favorite labels and I am certain it will continue to gain more attention. Buckler always puts on a great show that is somewhat theatrical and never dull. The fall 2007 collection had a strong ‘80s rock ‘n roll influence. Items of most interest were body conscious suits, coats and knits, slim fitting dress shirts with the predominant color palette being black and gray with splashes of red, green, blue and mauve.

Duckie Brown - Highlights from the Duckie Brown Fall 2007 Collection
For the Duckie Brown fall 2007 collection, we have witnessed a certain evolution or maturity in the label. There were more structured silhouettes but dressed down with high top shoes and gorgeous splashes of bright color via knit gloves, knit caps and sweaters. Thus, the label maintained its youthful approach to fashion which is what makes Duckie Brown so endearing. And there always seems to be an element of surprise and a fresh take to fashion which is difficult to achieve these days.

Photo Gallery of Canterbury of New Zealand's Fall 2006 Collection
Canterbury of New Zealand is the official purveyor of rugby team uniforms for many of the world's top teams. They are bringing their century-old heritage to the U.S. with a new "Off Field" collection that blends elements of rugby style with a contemporary flavor. Drawing on its rich rugby history, Canterbury of New Zealand incorporates such rugby-centric features as rubber buttons, loop collar and triple bar tack stitching into each piece. This new "ready-to-wear" collection is super cool.

Men's Fashion - Looks from the John Bartlett Fall 2006 Men's Fashion Collection
I must say I was surprised by the John Bartlett fall 2006 mens fashion collection. The looks were rugged and outdoorsy. I cant say I loved the collection as a whole but there were pieces and elements that were stunning. The coats and jackets were superb the leathers impressive and the fabrics and color scheme rich. Bartlett is always good for a few surprises that make his collections stand out and his fall 2006 mens fashion collection was no exception.

Men's Fashion - Highlights from the DKNY Fall 2006 Men's Fashion Collection
DKNYs collections always have a youthful relaxed urban feel and this is what I love about them. They are clothes that are easy to wear and versatile. The DKNY fall 2006 mens collection is no different. Overall the collection is dark with splashes of color. The fits are relaxed and fabrics have texture. Here I have highlighted my favorite looks from the DKNY fall 2006 mens fashion collection.

Highlights from the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2006 Men's Fashion Collection
My impression of the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2006 mens fashion collection is a collection of looks for the urban sophisticate. What was shown on the runway had the appearance of being a little vintage perhaps a bit grunge with a few dressier pieces thrown in for good measure. All of these references were layered together creating ensembles that had a care free eclectic flair. See for yourself and check out these highlights of the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2006 mens fashion collection.

Perry Ellis - Highlights from the Perry Ellis Fall / Winter 2005 Collection
Perry Ellis Creative Director Jerry Kaye says the Perry Ellis Signature Fall 2005 collection is all about contradiction - old world meets todays modern man. This collection will create the American icon of today.
