8 Ways to Help You Save Money on Your Wardrobe

By Daniel Billett, About.com

I don't know about you, but I've been watching my retirement fund dwindle away with the passing of each day and week. If that weren't bad enough, food and energy costs are taking all of my fun money. So where does that leave my wardrobe budget? Uh, well, it's pretty much non-existent so finding deals on clothes and inexpensive alternatives to designer looks is more important than ever. Here are eight ways to help you save money on your wardrobe.

  1. When it comes to great looking shoes for an afforadable price, Kenneth Cole is my top pick. I have surveyed (casually that is) many guys, and they all seem to like Kenneth Cole when cost is a concern. Cool Kenneth Cole Dress Shoes for Men

  2. For good quality wardrobe basics that are also budget friendly, Land's End is great. The feedback I get from readers is positive. Here I have highlighted men's wardrobe basics I believe look more expensive than they are and will serve you well both at work and play. Men's Budget Wardrobe Essentials from Land's End

  3. The cost of jeans has gotten a little out of control if you ask me. The fact that $200 has become somewhat normal for a pair of jeans is crazy. There are plenty of great jeans around $50 and under. Less Expensive Jeans for Men

  4. If you want cheap and cheerful t-shirts, Old Navy comes to the rescue once again. These tees come in a million colors, okay maybe just twelve. Buy Direct

  5. Of course one of the best ways you can save money on clothing is by choosing colors and fabrics you can wear year round. Guys are lucky this way in that we typically wear cotton shirts both in summer and winter and pants are either wool or cotton. The transition from spring/summer to fall/winter is as easy as throwing on a sweater or sport coat. The trick is to choose colors that are neutral, like blue or white for a dress shirt and navy, gray or black for a trouser. Keep your sweaters and sport coats neutral too and you are good to go.

  6. These days so many companies are producing really cool watches that look much more expensive than they really are. It's amazing really. No longer do you need to buy a fake Rolex (that won't last either) when you when there are better quality choices out there. Terrific Men's Watches Under One Hundred Dollars

  7. The end of season sales is the best time to pick up some great stuff. This is when I like swoop in for the kill, so to speak. Some retailers discount as much as 65% off. And not only do places like Old Navy do this, but high end places like Saks Fifth Avenue do also.

  8. Double your wardrobe's potential with reversible pieces that offer two looks in one. Sweaters, jackets and tees are often made reversible. This Reversible zip-front sweater from The Gap is a perfect example.
