Organic Cotton

By Daniel Billett, About.com

Definition: Organic cotton is grown without harmful pesticides or chemicals which you might expect. It is also free of formaldehyde finishes which is why it is often used for baby clothes, but it’s not just for babies. Organic cotton is known to wear well and last a long time. It is currently being grown successfully in many countries and some of the largest producers are Turkey, India and China according to the Organic Trade Association. The real shocker, though, is that production of conventional cotton uses approximately 25% of the world’s insecticides and 10% of the world's pesticides according to aboutorganiccotton.org. Obviously conventional cotton has a huge impact on the environment so choosing clothes made with organic cotton will make you feel good in more ways than one.
