Definition: According to the New York Times, The London Times and several other sources, the term “metrosexual” was first introduced in November 1994 by author Mark Simpson. He published an article titled “Here Come The Mirror Men” in The Independent, a British paper. In this article, Simpson referred to the metrosexual as “a single young man with a high disposable income, living or working in the city (because that’s where all the best shops are).” Essentially this article was an “outing” for heterosexual men who have a strong concern for their appearance and don’t care how that might be perceived since the metrosexual's lifestyle displays attributes that are stereotypically seen among gay men. Of course fashion is one of the main interests for the heterosexual metrosexual man, but is also a guy who takes advantage of living in or near a major city with such easy access to great stores, salons, etc.
