Herringbone

By Daniel Billett, About.com

Definition: Herringbone is a zigzag pattern most often found in a wool twill fabric. It is woven or printed on light-weight to heavy-weight fabrics and is one of the most popular patterns for suits and jackets. According to Wikipedia, “the pattern is called herringbone because it looks like the skeleton of a herring fish.”
